Ivory (Mitch) Mitchell, Jr. was born unto this world in the Spring of 1950 on March 30th in Donaldsonville, LA to the late Ivory and Annette Mitchell. Our beloved Mitch peacefully transitioned to eternal life surrounded by his loving family on June 25, 2016 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital. He was graciously welcomed home by his parents, Ivory and Annette Mitchell, sister, Augustine "Shine" Mitchell, brothers, Melvin and Ivory "I-boy" Mitchell and a host of other family and friends.
FUN, LOVING, HARD WORKING, KIND-HEARTED &OUTSPOKEN are just some of the many powerful words one could use to describe this most vibrant man. First and foremost, Mitch was a family man to the depths of his core. You were assured a wonderful time and delighted palette whenever you were a guest at one of his abundant cookouts or infamous gumbo dinners. Mitch loved soul music and would bring the house down with his James Brown-like dance moves. Always staying hip and current, he would often shock us with some of the modern songs he knew lyric by lyric. Still, it was his compassionate heart and generous spirit that was the most valuable gift he offered any of us. He would give you his last without complaint because the well-being of those he loved came first in every situation. Yes, he was also stern, direct and could be quite colorful. You knew what he was feeling and what he thought because being genuine and sincere was simply who he was. But most of all Mitch absolutely adored his grandchildren, and each one of them can attest to the profound care and concern he showed them.
Mitch fought a long battle against various obstacles. Through it all he didn't complain much and would always find ways to make light of the situation. He was a super-trooper through it all. His presence in this world will truly be missed. He leaves behind: his wife, Dorothy J. Mitchell, seven sons, Roderick Mitchell of Austin, TX, Tony Mitchell of Louisville, KY, Ivory Mitchell III of San Francisco, CA, Ricky (Cynthia) Mitchell of Lawrenceville,GA, Bryan (Kasey) Mitchell and Eric (Tiffany) Mitchell both of Milwaukee, WI, Allen Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Treba Mitchell; seventeen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; five sisters, Rosa Bee Pierce of New Orleans, LA, Betty A. Mitchell of San Diego, CA, Ineze Mitchell of St. Louis, MO, Betty J. Mitchell and Irene Mitchell both of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Warren (Gloria) Mitchell and Izeal Mitchell both of Milwaukee, WI, and a host of other relatives and good friends.
