School’s Out! Connect with Neighbors and Help Your Community

The whole team at Krause Funeral Homes been waiting a long time to say this (especially with our never-ending winter!) . . . summer is here! For many families in Brookfield, New Berlin, and Milwaukee, the next few months are going to be filled with Brewers games, trips to the beach, festivals of all kinds, and as many brats as you can eat! Our community certainly shines during June, July, and August, don’t you think?

These fun opportunities bring to mind a philosophy that’s been passed down from generation to generation in the Krause family: The importance of reaching beyond ourselves and contributing to those around us. As a family-owned funeral home, we have more than 80 years invested in helping people through some of the hardest moments in their lives. We know how important it is to feel supported during good times and bad. That’s why we make every effort to get involved in our community.

We’re proud supporters of several local charities and non-profit organizations related to children, the arts, and education. We also host free events and seminars throughout the year to help educate our neighbors on end-of-life issues, such as preplanning one’s funeral. Our “Coffee & Donuts” preplanning event is held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 9:30. The second Tuesday is held at our Brookfield location and the fourth Tuesday is held at our New Berlin location. Here, you can learn about what’s involved with preplanning your funeral, and how this simple process will dramatically reduce your family’s stress in the long run.

Also, keep an eye out for our next “Pizza & Preplan” luncheon. In the last year, this event earned attention on the national news, including features on NBC’s The Today Show and Fox News! Guests enjoyed free pizza from local favorite, Vino Cappuccino, while our professional staff described preplanning options, answered questions, and explained the many benefits of making your funeral wishes known ahead of time. You can learn more about all our events on our website or ask about them when you call us.

Beyond our in-house events and beyond our support of local charities and activities, we want to offer a reminder – and it’s one we need to hear as much as anyone else: This summer is a wonderful time to reach out to the people living in our neighborhoods. It’s easy to get caught up in our own day-to-day responsibilities, and unintentionally overlook those around us. But some hot and humid evening, when you’re out in your yard and spot a new face nearby, we’d encourage you to say hello and make a connection. And with the kids and grandkids out of school, you will have more opportunities to get them involved in caring for their neighbors as well. Perhaps you could volunteer at a local soup kitchen or start a fundraiser to benefit a favorite charity.

This idea of giving back always makes us think of James Krause, Krause Funeral Homes president from 1963 until 1994. James often talked about how we’re only on earth for short time, and that what we do here matters. We want to carry on James’ legacy, focusing on others and holding onto our sense of responsibility to our neighbors and our community.

These next few months, as you take advantage of all Cream City has to offer, remember the difference you can make. You can always contact us with questions, and find out about upcoming events by liking our Facebook page. Now get outside and soak up every second of summer!
