Top 4 Places to See Christmas Lights in Milwaukee County

If you lived in Milwaukee, Brookfield, or New Berlin during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, do you remember when Santa arrived in town by helicopter? That was quite a novelty at the time, as those on our Krause Funeral Homes team with that special memory can attest!

Christmastime in our area has always been chock full of traditions to enjoy year after year, and when it comes to Christmas lights, Milwaukee does it best (in our humble opinion!). We’ve compiled a list of our much-loved local Christmas lights displays to help you get in the holiday spirit. If you have favorites of your own to add, please do so in the comment section below.

1. Holiday Lights Festival, Nov. 15th – Jan. 1st

Head to Cathedral Square Park, Pere Marquette Park, and Zeidler Union Square for colorful lights and animated displays that will immediately put you in the holiday spirit! This display stretches throughout downtown with lights numbering around 500,000. Hop aboard the Jingle Bus Thursday through Sunday evenings for a $2, 40-minute narrated tour highlighting Milwaukee’s downtown light displays and landmarks.

2. Candy Cane Lane, Nov. 23rd – Dec. 26th

This neighborhood display in West Allis got its start in 1984 and has gone on to become a much-anticipated tradition for many in our area, not to mention a fundraiser for a great cause! Visitors are encouraged to make a small donation to benefit the MACC Fund – Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc. To date, Candy Cane Lane visitors have raised more than $2.2 million! You can expect to spend about an hour by car slowly touring the festive streets.

3. Miller Valley Holiday Lites, Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 30th – Dec. 22nd, 4:40 pm to 9 pm.

This free, kid-friendly light show dates back to the 1950s and was revitalized in 2005. Nearly 600,000 lights are synchronized to holiday music. The show runs every 20 minutes at Miller Valley. And for the older “kids” – if you’re 21 and older, you can also enjoy free beer samples inside after you see the lights.

4. Country Christmas, Nov. 23th – 25th and Nov. 30th – Dec. 31st

Known as Wisconsin’s largest outdoor, drive-through lights display, this Pewaukee favorite features more than one million dazzling lights showcased on 40 acres of woodsy countryside. After the drive along the Country Christmas Trail, you can wander through the Christmas Village and along the Streets of Bethlehem. Magical!

The Krause team hopes this holiday season is filled with warm memories of the past and fun experiences you’ll remember in years to come. We know this time of year can be difficult if you’ve lost someone you love, so please remember we’re here for you. We have a number of grief resources right here on this blog and on other areas of our website. Reach out to us to connect with the help you need.
