Alex Bernaden Jr, age 90, of New Berlin, entered God’s loving arms on Tuesday September 13, 2022. Proud father of John (Kathleen) Bernaden, Carol (Grant) Palick, Betty (Dave) Zerrien, Kathy (Debbie) Bernaden and Alex Bernaden III. Loved by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sister Rose Barker and other relatives and friends. Alex is proceeded in death by his wife Arabelle, son Bernard, grandson Michael and brothers-in-law Ed and Dan.
Alex met the love of his life Arabelle at a college dance and they were married for 65 years. He lovingly took care of his wife Arabelle at home until her death in 2019.
Alex graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Engineering. His engineering career spanned over 65 years, working for General Motors almost 25 years and then spending almost 40 years at Pentair (formerly Fleck Controls) as a Product & Quality Engineer. Although he could have retired earlier, he loved working as an engineer and always said he was not ready to retire. As the work world had changed, at 88 years old, he converted his kitchen table to his home office and worked from home until his death.
He enjoyed teaching and sharing his knowledge. He will always be remembered as the “go to” resource for any DIY home or car project. He knew something about everything. And when you would ask him, it was always a teachable moment — you always felt like you were learning something new.
Alex’s passion was spending time at his and Arabelle’s cottage in Michigan. He especially enjoyed walking the beach and looking out over the water, and most importantly, sharing time with family at the cottage.
He loved to travel with his kids and grandkids, traveling to Europe, China, Ukraine, Caribbean cruises, National Parks, and many trips to Florida.
Alex will forever be remembered as a kind, generous and loving father and grandfather. He cherished every moment of time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
