Alice May Redding (Née Ferguson), 97, passed from her residence at Azura Assisted Living Home in Brookfield, Wisconsin to her eternal home on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Alice was born on June 30, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph and May Ferguson. Alice was the affable and shy middle sister between her beloved older sister, Grace, and doting younger sister, Dorothy. The three sisters grew up in their family home in Chicago and attended Austin High School.
Alice was tall for her grade, and when her classroom was overcrowded in junior high, she was advanced to the next grade, due to her stature. She also graduated high school after 3.5 years in January 1944. In her junior year of high school, Alice, also called Fergie by her friends, met the love of her life, Harold Redding. The two were married on May 17, 1946.
After marriage, Alice and Harold moved to Wisconsin, and Alice devoted her life to her six children, eventual grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Alice and Harold had six children: Catherine (Christopher), Mark (MaryAnn), Christine (Ronald), Keith (Cheryl), Dawn (John) and Karen (Craig). Their grandchildren include: Andy, Jennifer, Erin, Mistie, Laura, Molly, Chad, Lydia, Madalyn, Micah, Jack, Moriah and Jeremiah. They also have 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Alice will be remembered as a loving and gracious wife and mother. She was never one to take center-stage, but always made room for others. She was willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and church friends alike. Alice enjoyed church groups, Bible studies and volunteer opportunities with her children’s schools; and eventually after retirement, enjoyed volunteering at Elmbrook Hospital. Her faith in Jesus and her attitude of “glass-more-than-half-full” toward life contributed to her many and joyful years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Elmbrook Church, 777 South Barker Road, Brookfield, Wisconsin, 1:30 PM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:30 PM.
Anyone desiring to send flowers, can have them delivered to the church with attention to the ‘Alice Redding Celebration of Life.’
