Allen H. Davis
Sadly, left us on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 surrounded by love after a battle with cancer at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Ilene Davis for 34 years. Brother and partner-in-crime of Barb (Jack) McGill. Loved step-dad of Tracey (Brad) Iding and Cory (Jonathan) Zylstra and favorite uncle of John (Terry) McGill and Mike (Jen) McGill. Loving grandpa of Maya, Olivia, Kate and Ella Iding and Marley and Max Zylstra. Fun Great-uncle of Lauren McGill and Jack Daniel McGill. Preceded in death by mother, Rowena (nee Esser) Davis and father, Allen Davis Sr.
Al attended St. Robert’s Grade School in Shorewood and was a 1964 graduate of Shorewood High School. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Engineering from MATC and later a Business Degree from UWM. Al fostered his love of cars through the Mequon Texaco he owned and operated for many years. He later earned his Broker’s Real Estate license and worked with Merrill Lynch Realtors and Prudential Preferred Properties as a Broker and then Office Manager for the North Shore office. He retired in 2013 after time as a Mortgage Broker/Lender with Priority Mortgage/Inlanta. He was able to work in the same building as Ilene and Barb for much of his later career, which they all usually enjoyed.
Al knew a little something about nearly everything. Whether it was car repairs, buying a home, or fixing almost anything, he was always willing to help his family and friends when they needed him. He was firm in his beliefs and was a master negotiator. Al had a love for hot rod cars, tools, the Packers and talking with neighbors around the fire pit in his yard. After retirement, he and Ilene spent most of the summer together at their place on Lost Lake in St. Germain. Even better, his sister’s family were summer residents on the lake as well. His family is grateful for the memories they will always have there-fishing from the pier, spending quarters at Patti’s Murmuring Waters and having drinks and snacks on the deck for cocktail hour.
Al’s biggest love was for his family and his grandchildren. He was a silly grandpa who relished making his grandkids laugh. He passed on words of wisdom- ‘never pay retail’, ‘measure twice, cut once’ and was one of their most loyal fans on the sidelines, in the stands and in the audience.
We extend our gratitude to Angels Grace Hospice and all of the neighbors, friends and family who have reached out.
While Al will be greatly missed, we know that he will be with us in the sparkles on the lake from the sun of a new day.
Gathering will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, your prayers and other kindness have been and will be appreciated.
