Claudette Holloway (née Bond) was born in Mercer, Tennessee on June 28, 1943, to Anna Bond and Glen Bond. During her early years, she and her mom relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Claudette accepted Christ at an early age. She attended St. Francis Catholic School through middle school and graduated from North Division High School. During her high school years, she developed very close friendships which continued to this day. She remained a proud member of her North Division High School Reunion Committee. Claudette also took classes at MATC earning various certifications.
Claudette had five children from previous unions: Tracey, Carol, Steve, Jeff, and Nicole. Claudette married Richard “Tony” Holloway on July 8, 1989. The two of them set the example as friends committed to a strong, loving partnership that has lasted over 35 years.
Claudette held various jobs where she did what she enjoyed most — helping others. Early in her career, she worked at the VA Hospital. Claudette retired from Milwaukee County after over 20 years of service as an Economic Development Specialist. After retirement, she worked for the Milwaukee County Election Commission. Claudette also enjoyed community work, including serving as president of the neighborhood block club for several years.
Claudette had a strong sense of faith which she shared with her family. She was known as “Mom” to many who loved her. Claudette was admired and adored for her warm and inspiring nature. She loved to cook, dance, and spend time with family and friends. She was known as “no-nonsense” and would be direct, yet you knew she cared. In her words, she knew how to be “nice-nasty” if she had to. Through the years she enjoyed working at the family business – Club DeVille, traveling, going to casinos, shopping, and most of all gatherings with family and friends.
Claudette Holloway departed this life on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father Glen Bond, mother Anna Bond, stepfather William Thompson, brother William Thompson II, sister Pamela Bond, son-in-law Louis Nash, sister-in-law Beverly Kunda, parents-in-law Walter and Elestine Holloway, and granddaughter Velencia Spears.
Claudette leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Tony Holloway; children Tracey Nash, Carol (Victor) Johnson, Steve Spears, Jeffrey Spears, and Nicole Spears; grandchildren Tiffany Spears, Victor (Kinnethia) Johnson, Elwood Bennett, Jeff Spears, Michael Johnson, Stephon Spears, Stephanie Spears, and Steven Spears; great-grandson Tristan Cobb; brother Bishop Henry (Doris) Williamson, Sr., sisters-in-law Bernadette Thompson and Debra Holloway, brothers-in-law Mike Kunda and Steven (Wendy) Holloway; Geneva (Greg) Jones, Aretha Taylor-Washington, Veronica Roberson, and a host of loving family and friends.
