Beloved husband of Charlene “Char” (nee Hansen) for over 46 years. Loving father of Jonathan (Cala) Poppe. Proud grandfather of Brody. Dear brother of Dan (Rita) Poppe. Also loved by other family and friends.
Dennis was an “old soul” his entire life. He liked the values of the 50’s and 60’s and could never get into the technology age of computers. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High in 1962 and spent his career in the banking industry, which was perfect for him because he was a total numbers guy. That along with science made his heart sing. He was a great problem solver and would spend hours looking for the right answer. To him it was “never give up”.
Dennis met the love of his life, Char, on July 18, 1976. They got engaged on July 28th, 1976 (her birthday). Then together they planned and pulled off a bicentennial wedding of red, white, and blue on September, 25th, 1976, and were together for the next 46 and a half years. He always told people that it was the smartest accomplishment of his life (Char agrees).
Dennis was always a hard worker and a good neighbor. If he saw someone needed help he was there to help, not because he wanted anything, just because “that’s what neighbors do.” Of course it was a little annoying when he would start up his lawnmower at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, but nobody really complained.
His family, Char, Jonathan, Cala, and Brody made his world complete and he always tried to let us know it. He loved throwing footballs, baseballs, and practicing golf in the front yard with Brody at any time.
Dennis was a Sports Aficionado. He loved to talk for hours about it, be it baseball, football, or golf especially. Names, places, or stats and he was your man.
And most of all, he was a man who believed deeply in his faith in God.
