Don walked into God's open and loving arms on November 6, 2013. He was then embraced by his first wife of 56 years, Betty L. Eckers. Don is the beloved husband of Gloria Eckers. He is also survived by his four children: Carol (Daniel) Smith of Milwaukee, Mary (Joseph) Weber of Hartland, Donald (Laura) Eckers, Jr. of Overland Park, KS, and Patricia (Thomas) Kelley of New Berlin. He is further survived by his twin brother Jerome (Blanche) Eckers of Clintonville, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and 4 step-children, Steven (Barbara) Janotta, Daniel (Pamela) Janotta, Kevin (Shannon) Janotta and Amy (John) Roberts.
Don served his country in the United States Navy in WWII. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Milwaukee Elks Club BPOE #46. He was active in his parish, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He was also the Community Relations Officer with the Butler Police Department.
Visitation at the Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, on Sunday, November 10, at 3:00-6:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 5:30 PM. Funeral Mass on Monday at ST. MARGARET MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3970 North 92nd Street, at 10:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Margaret Mary Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
