“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45
Dorothy Jean Dunlap was born February 2, 1941, in Blytheville, Ark. to Albert Dunlap Sr. and Rosetta Dunlap. In 1950 the family relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dorothy received her formal education at 4th Street School, Roosevelt Junior Middle School and North Division High School. To her family she was known as “Dottie” and “The Diva”.
Dorothy was blessed to have two daughters, Loretta and Angela. Dorothy believed in working hard and had a desire to work in the world of fashion. During her life she was a model, fitness instructor, administrative assistant and owner of Nefertiti Hair Salon in Fox Point, Wisconsin.
She cherished moments spent with her family; especially, her daughters and grandchildren Julian and Marcquilla. Dorothy loved cooking and was famous in the family for her Mac and Cheese. Dorothy loved shopping and traveling, specifically island cruises. As a child she always dreamed of going to Paris, France. In 2000, her dream became a reality when she traveled there with her daughter Loretta.
Dorothy always had a deep faith in God, and in 1999 she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Holy Cathedral COGIC under the leadership of Pastor C.H. McClelland. Mother Dunlap loved working in the church and became a member of the Hospitality Committee, Singles Committee and the Business and Professional Women’s Alliance. Always caring and concerned for the needs of others, she presented the idea of having a boutique to Mother Prentiss McClelland. In 2015, Be Blessed Again Boutique was established in the garden level at Holy Cathedral Church; which served as a blessing to many for years.
On May 28, 2022, at 11:05 a.m. Dorothy departed this life after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Sr. and Rosetta Dunlap: sister, Geraldine Little and brothers, Albert Dunlap Jr. and Joseph Dunlap.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters Loretta (Undraye) Howard, and Angela Love; two brothers Wilbert Taylor and Harold Lewis; two grandchildren Julian (Latrice) Payne and Marcquilla Allen (Landon Johnson). Ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, many friends, and the entire Holy Cathedral COGIC family.
