I've known "Reeder" since the 70's and there is not a lot of wetlands and natural areas that we didn't "botanize" on weekends in SE WI. His tireless efforts to preserve native plant communities was an obsession and he will be forever an inspiration to us all.
Steve Eggers left a message on April 1, 2021:
Don was the most influential mentor in my career as an ecologist. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and passed on his knowledge and passion for wetlands, woodlands, prairies, rare species and anything and everything involving ecology.
Will Wawrzyn left a message on March 31, 2021:
Don was a mentor and teacher to so many. A tireless advocate for the natural world and the environment. The individuals and groups that practice stewardship of the land will always be indebted to him. Thanks Don.
Dan Carter left a message on March 30, 2021:
I understand better now the agony of de-feet. Perhaps this is why your shoes are yet to be filled. We can all do better to be tireless voices for conservation by your example. Rest in Peace.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

May the Lord Jesus Christ be with the Reed family at this time and forevermore.

As the person he chose to do the "dirty work" on the SEWRPC Natural Areas Plan, I will always be in his debt for hiring me in 1991. He put up with me for 22 years (and vice-versa, I suppose). RIP, El Jefe
