Lynn Schmitt (Frigge) left a message on October 28, 2016:
I was saddened to learn of his passing. Nicolet High had offered and continues to offer an excellent education for young adults. As a 1973 alumni, to this day I am still very grateful for the outstanding teachers that I had. This is a true reflection of Dr. Reiels, and what he had accomplished for the school and the students. It was nice to learn that his two sons are a part of the faculty at Nicolet. My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr.Reiels.

I remember Jim from my years at Nicolet. He made our High School one of the best.

I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Reiels. He was the beloved principal of Nicolet for many years, including my attendance (class of 1973). Much of my interaction with him was from 3 yrs. of being on student council - especially when we were tackling the dicey "Hot Lunch Program" topic, the controversial "smoking lounge," and the historical renaming of "Frontage Road" to “Jean Nicolet Road.” Dr. Reiels was a very warm, engaged, hands-on person. He knew how to connect with students. Regarding student council, he was a active participant, ready to guide but not dictate. Both our 1973 alumni 35 & 40 year committees lobbied to get Dr. Reiels & Jean to be with us for these reunions but they were still living up in northern Wisconsin – very active with other commitments. Many of my fellow alumni may recall that Dr. Reiels' wife, Jean, also taught Adult Ed courses during the evening. Both sons, John & Brian continue their mom & dad’s legacy at Nicolet. John (Director of Technology) & Brian (Director of Facility Services) have been on staff for a number of years. Brian also serves as the Village of Thiensville (WI) fire chief where some alumni, including myself reside. Jean, Michael, John & Brian (and your children) - on behalf of my wife, Mindy (also a 1979 alum), please accept our heartfelt condolences and best wishes during this most difficult time.

My children were students at Nicolet, but I personally knew Jim in my role as a Nicolet school board member. I believe that his contributions to education created a legacy of educational excellence at Nicolet that benefitted not only all students but this entire North Shore community as well. He truly was a scholar and a gentleman, yet very humble when recognized for his accomplishments.

Uncle Jim, I will surely miss our conversations, your intelligence, wisdom, sense of humor, gentleness & great love of life always permeated the conversation. I know you will be having these conversations with dad until I get there to join in. We will miss you! Love, Dave
