BROOKFIELD – (Nee Barg) Passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, after over 2 years of a strong heroic battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia, at the age of 72. Geanine was born on June 28, 1947 to her late parents Vernon and Virginia (Nee Stepke) Barg. Loving Wife who was the best part of the whole to Bob, for 49 years. Most loving Mother of Chad and Curtis (Molly). Most loving and wonderful Grammy to Breleigh and Alea. Sister of Marsha (Alan) Karp and Cheryl (Bill) Poling. Further survived by brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Geanine molded many lives in her career as an elementary teacher in the Franklin and Elmbrook School Districts. How she loved to see the young one’s progress fully in life. A big hobby was antiquing and working spaces in antique malls. Geanine is loved by all.

Geanine was always special. I remember her kindness but most of all her humor. It was fun just talking with her. My condolences to her whole family.

I worked as a School Social Worker in Franklin Public Schools with Geanine many years ago. One of her parents were on the School Board. She was a most wonderful teacher - thoughtful, nurturing, and a great lesson planner. I knew that if students had her for a teacher, they were lucky indeed. We also had a chance to talk about her personal challenges with her cancer, pregnancy, etc. She was a special person. It was a loss for our district when she left, but I was happy to read that she continued to share her many talents with students in the Elmbrook. School District. As a family, you can be very proud of your Wife, and Mother. She positively influenced countless young people over her life. Jane Miller

Dear Cheryl and Marsha, sending my sympathies to your family. So sad to hear this news.

I had her for 3rd grade at Ben Franklin. She got married that year. Started the year as Miss Barg. I remember how hard it was for us 3rd graders to start calling her Mrs. Maurer. Also, I remember a group of friends rode our bikes to BF when we were in probably 6th grade to visit her after school one time. She was sooo excited to see us and see how we'd grown up! We may have been the first class that she taught. I don't know that for sure, but she was a very young teacher at the time. RIP Mrs. Maurer! Prayers to you and your family.

Geanine was a very heartwarming cousin!! Always appreciated my get well cards notes and prayers and putting her on our St. Thomas Prayer Chain. Bob was a very loving,caring and helpful husband and her beautiful family. (All of you are on our Prayer Chain now including Geanine's soul) Geanine and Bob received my get well card on Sat. before she went to live with Our Lord on Sunday.

Dear Bob, Chad, Curtis and family - Geanine is and always will be a special cousin. Even in our childhood “cousin sleepovers” Geanine was always the teacher. I have vivid memories of her holding class in one of the sheds on the farm on S. 51st Street. She was always loving and kind as a child and adult. To The Family of Geanine - I was so sorry to see that Geanine passed away. I was a volunteer in the Cancer Center when she would come in for her treatments. It was a pleasure greeting her and serving her a beverage. She was so sweet and had a beautiful smile. I met many wonderful people in the Cancer Center and she definitely was one of them. My deepest sympathy to the family. When Geanine joined the Tonawanda School faculty she brought with her sunshine and smiles. She was kind, thoughtful, and patient with every child and parent and brought with her a wealth of skills that she willingly shared with other staff members. She truly was a blessing to us and particularly to me.

He's take a walk, we'd joke around, and then he'd come back and we would laugh. She is with Jodi, and her other co-patients that left us before her.
