I was very sorry to hear that Mr. Sullivan has passed away. This man knew how to motivate children to learn, compete and always strive for excellence. He was my Spanish teacher at Bell, and I was privileged to work with him for 3 years on the staff of the Carillon. Even our school newspaper won accolades because he served as our staff advisor. Jerry Sullivan coached my husband, Fred, to two consecutive MPS doubles tennis championships. He taught more than Spanish and tennis. Mr. Sullivan could build character in his students. Men like him with his drive and commitment are rare indeed.

Jerry Sullivan was a legendary HS tennis coach in Wisconsin and an inspiration to many young aspiring athletes spanning multiple decades. His infectious smile and compassionate motivation drew the very best out of his players and will long be remembered by those that knew him. Jerry's legacy lives on through the countless students that he taught as a Spanish teacher at Alexander Bell JHS and athletes that he coached as the Tennis Coach at Alexander Hamilton HS in the Milwaukee Public Schools and have in turn carried forward in their own lives.

I am sorry to read of Jerry's death. He was such a fun and inspiring tennis coach for our women's team in Elm Grove. He was gifted with skill in playing and in teaching those of us who had little talent. Many will miss him.
