Loving father of daughter, Joanne (Frank) Jiruska and son, the late George Gust Vergetis. Beloved grandfather of Frank and George Gust Jiruska. Gust was a standout in both academics and athletics at Lincoln High School and at UW-Madison, where he captained the baseball team (1954). He excelled in football and baseball, attending Wisconsin on scholarship and playing in the 1953 Rose Bowl. Following college, he served two years in the Army in Oklahoma (First Lieutenant). He also played professional baseball as catcher (Oklahoma City Indians). Gust devoted his career to public education, teaching English and heading the department at Brown Deer High School where he coached baseball (State Championship 1966). Gust then spent 21 years in the Muskego-Norway School District in several positions of administration. Gust was also a Shriner with Lafayette Masonic Lodge #265.
