My condolences to the family. Mr. Sparangis was the first person i talked with in accepting my job here at the VA. He was very helpful in me getting my documents corrected. I return from military duty to this notice. Very sad to hear of your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Gust was such a great mentor and very helpful anytime anyone would ask him for help. This is such a shock to our whole organization. One minute we are comfortable with everyone being with us, and the next we learn of tragic news like this. He will always be with us just not physically. I feel so bad I could not make it to the visitation, but send my condolences and prayers for your family at such a sad time.

Gus (Gustav) may you rest in peace, the kind of peace where your cheeky sense of humor lives on in perpetuity. My thoughts and heartfelt sympathy go out to your family (including your fur babies) and friends. You will be missed.

I don’t know where to start.…. Gust was my friend, co-worker, and brother. We worked together a long time and literally side-by-side. You were always there when I needed your support or your deep knowledge base. You never surprised me with what you knew, nor did you hesitate to share or explain something to an employee. You drove me crazy at times, but I am truly going to miss your stories, your smile, your laughter, your loud voice, but most of all your huge heart. I am glad I was able to see you one last time and talk to you. We had a great conversation. You shared so many stories of your family (Ted, Dawn, Peter, Eleni, George, the dogs) and I know you loved them all dearly and would do anything for them. I thank God our paths crossed, and I got to know you they way I did. I will miss you dearly my friend. My heartfelt condolences go out to all your family and friends. Gust was a wonderful soul. May you rest in peace.

Before relocating for a VBA job, Gust took the time to answer a myriad of questions about my new position, put me in contact with a manager, as well as provided me with plenty of tips for moving to the area. His kindness and sense of humor will be missed by many.

I will truly miss our lunch conversations. The stories that Gust shared were awesome. I enjoyed your sense of humor and honesty. Thank you for allowing me into your lunch crew and making me feel like part of the group. I am glad that despite the fact that we were working from home we remained in contact. You were an amazing coworker but overall a true great friend. Until we meet again. I will miss you dearly. My condolences to the family. God bless you.

I had the pleasure of working with Gus (virtually) so we never met in person. Yet, Gus had a way to forming a friendship that could make a person feel like they knew them a lifetime. Gus had a very quick witted snarky sense of humor that I appreciated:-) His sudden passing is felt by those all of those he worked with virtually with in VBA office Michigan. My heartfelt Condolences to all of his loved ones.

Gust, I will miss your loud voice and asking for my paperwork at the VA. But above all things you made sure that my benefits were being processed correctly. You also had a good sense of humor and often made me laugh, especially during the new employee orientation that I had back in 2015. Working in Payroll, I enjoyed working along side you for HR. You are truly missed. Until we are able to meet again. Furthermore, I wanted to express condolences to the family and friends of Gust during this difficult time.

This is such a tragedy , I'm so sorry your going through this. Gus was a good friend. We had some fun times together that I will always treasure. I will miss him. I will miss his great sense of humor, his quick wit with a bite of sarcasm. He was a funny guy. He was so loved, a great Uncle G to eleni and peter. A wonderful family addition for Dawn and Ted who loved him dearly. You and gus will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Clive Wells left a message on September 26, 2021:
Deepest sympathy to the family. I always enjoyed meeting Gus. Especially, when he brought Peter to cub scouts and, later, to scouts as Peter progressed to the rank of Eagle Scout. Gus was there for Ted & Dawn when needed and, often, he was there just because that was the person he was. RIP Gus.
