Iain Douglas Campbell departed this life October 5, 2010, age 36. Iain was a devoted husband of Katie (nee Wilharms) and loving son of William and Sandra A. He was a dear son-in-law of David and Sharon L. (nee Schmidt) Brodzinski, brother of Colin (Diane Wilson) Campbell and Christen (Adam) Wandsnider as well as Grandson of Virginia C. Derong. Iain cherished his relationships with his nieces, Hailey, Cailyn, and Ashlynn, as well as Andy, Mike, Leslie and Kim. He will be missed by many friends and family both here and abroad, especially his aunt Janice in Scotland and god-parents Jean Dow and uncle Gary Derong. Iain was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kenneth Derong, his scottish grandparents John and Mary W. M. Campbell, and his step-grandmother May Sommerville. Iain often lived life in a private sort of way. He wasn't loud or boastful and rarely talked about himself. Instead, Iain talked about the things around him that he loved. Get him talking about any of his favorite subjects and he could talk to you all night, especially if it was over a beer at the bar. Iain loved sports, especially baseball, and was an exceptional Milwaukee Brewers fan. He loved going to all games, but never missed Opening Day. In Iain's world it was treated like a national holiday. He could also keep you talking about the Packers, skiing, Star Wars or movies for hours. He was especially proud of his beautiful nieces and had a wonderful patience and joy with all kids. To pay the bills and fund his hobbies, Iain spent 16 years working for Quad Graphics. He started working at the Pewaukee plant, spent another 5 years working in West Allis, only to return to the Pewaukee plant again as a finishing supervisor. Everyone enjoyed working with Iain and his coworkers always speak of him well. We were lucky to have the Quad family on our side. Iain was also lucky to have some of the greatest friends one could ask for. He loved just hanging out and having a good time, wherever that happened. The test of true friendship is when you can spend time apart and then pick up your friendship right where you left off. Iain had that with many of his friends, including ones he kept from childhood. He was lucky to have been able to see so many of them in the last couple of months. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Iain's oncologist, Dr. Lauren Wiebe and her team at Froedert. We can't thank her enough for treating Iain as a person and not just a patient. Iain's cancer was agressive and unfortunately out of everyone's control. However, throughout the whole process Dr. Wiebe let Iain take charge and was willing to take his care wherever he wanted it to go. It's difficult to sum up all the things that make up a person in such a short space. I will miss and love his sense of humor, easy-going nature, and his ability to make anyone feel welcome and at home. He never needed anything fancy or fussy. He was genuine and sincere and looked for those same qualities in others. He said what he meant and meant what he said. His good character is best evidenced by all those who will so dearly mourn his loss. We look forward to hearing all of your favorite memories as well and hope that you join us at his memorial service. Gathering at REDEMPTION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4057 N. Mayfair Rd., Sunday, October 10, 4:00-7:00 PM Service 7:00 PM.
