Dear Dorsey Family: Mrs. Nelson and I pray that the Lord continues to comfort you all during this unsettling time. A poem I like is, "We don't know what tomorrow brings, we only know this minute. But Jesus does say, 'This is the way!' so by faith we walk in it." Mr. Dorsey now leads the way to heaven for all of us, like he led the way to Jesus for so many of us while he was on this earth. It was my distinct privilege and a great, personal blessing to have worked, prayed, learned, and laughed with Jimmie. Jesus keep you all!

G Irizarry left a message on April 23, 2020:
My sincere condolences to the Dorsey Family on the recent passing of Jimmie. I just wanted to say that J.D. was a very kind soul and a joyful person. I had the opportunity to work with him when assigned to cases in his patrol district. You knew everything was under control when Sgt J.D was on the scene supervising his officers. Our city just lost one of the few greats in MPD history and I hope his legacy and thought process on Law Enforcement will be carried on by all those he mentored. The one thing I will always remember was the aroma of his cigar as he stepped out of his squad over the years. Also, his laugh or a quick joke to break the tension during incidents on the street. He did a lot for his community over the years and will be missed by all who knew him. So, I will pray for J.D., his family and friends so that they may comfort one another during this time of sorrow. J.D. may you R.I.P as you travel on your new journey, hopefully it will be a sunny place that has nice beach and cigars for you to cherish. G. Irizarry
