(née Holub) Died peacefully, Sunday, November 19, 2017, age 89.
Joan was born in Milwaukee to Edward Holub and Veronica Mary “Hazel” Holub (née Moriarty) on November 5, 1928. Joan’s father passed away while she was still in her teens and she was often cared for by her aunt and uncle, Clara and Philip Read.
Joan attended and graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. Before her marriage to Glenn, the love of her life, she worked as a beautician. Their wedding took place on November 25, 1950. (They married during a snowstorm, after deer-hunting season was over.)
The main focus of her life was the care and feeding of her family. Joan prided herself in raising kids, plants, and dogs and lived in the brick house handmade by her husband, Glenn, until the end of her life. She had numerous beloved friends, and many a party was thrown at her home. She opened her house to everyone, even taking in children who needed a temporary home. Joan was known as the “Cookie Queen” in her Brookfield neighborhood, where neighbors and children stopped by for a treat until the week she died. Her remarkably creative gourmet cooking skills and recipes are still carried on by her children and grandchildren. She loved her home, where she could often be found in her garden or enjoying her abundant flowers, chatting with friends and family on her outdoor swing.
Joan worked as a volunteer at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital in Brookfield for many years, one of her proudest accomplishments, after the raising of her family. For sixty years Joan and Glenn were very active members at Trinity United Church of Christ. She loved travel and visited far flung places including China, Europe and Mexico.
Joan always gathered the family at the picture window in her living room to wave farewell to any departing guest or family member. We are all waving to her now.
She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Glenn K. Siebert. She was preceded in death by her son Dan and her only sister, Jackie Walsh. Surviving Joan are: son John and his wife Sue and their children Nathan, Ben and Luke: son Glenn and his wife Mary, their daughter Veronica, and Glenn’s children, Andy, Gretchen and Alexis: daughter Mary and her husband Steve Holman: son Bill: son Steve and his wife Gail and their son Cole: and seven great-grand children.
