Born to Lebanese immigrants who valued education, Joe was the first in his family to go to college, receiving his undergraduate degree from the WI State Teacher’s College in 1942. Just prior to graduation, Joe joined the Army Air Corps serving his country in WWII. After the war, he continued his education, receiving a Masters in French from UW. He taught French and Spanish in the MPS System for over 30 years, primarily at John Marshall High School. In retirement, he continued his love of teaching at the La Farge Life Long Learning Institute and was also docent at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Joe was an excellent cook, a true wine connoisseur, and an avid gardener. He loved to attend local music and theater performances, as well as travel to France and Ireland, with Eileen. He was a kind and humble man for whom family and education meant everything.
