LaVerne H. Bogumill

LaVerne “Peanuts” (Thoms) Bogumill passed away peacefully, Thursday May 18, 2017 at the age of 92.

LaVerne was born on January 31, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI to John and Gertrude (Striepling) Thoms.

She married Ted Jansen and they had three children together, Linda (Ron) Leach, Milwaukee, Jon Jansen Florida, and Patti (Mel) Yenter, Mississippi.

In 1956 she met Leo Bogumill  and they married on February 15, 1958 in a civil ceremony at the courthouse in Waukesha, WI.

LaVerne worked at General Merchandise in Milwaukee and later became the manager of the computer services at JCPenney merchandise center in Milwaukee. She and Leo enjoyed many adventures traveling with family and friends. She often shared her stories with folks she met on these trips. She never met a stranger, everyone was a friend to LaVerne and was the recipient of her special hugs.

She was an athlete playing baseball with the professional women during WWII, an avid and championship bowler (Bowling With the Champs on TV) and golfer. LaVerne enjoyed the beauty of flowers and tending to them throughout her life.  She loved well, lived well, and finished well with a gracious, kind, loving, and joyful heart filled with gratitude for all who were a part of her long life.

LaVerne is survived by her husband Leo, her children, grandchildren Jeffrey S. (Giovanna) Rublis, David J. Rublis, Laura (Todd) Rickert, Tim (Nicole) Yenter, and Tom (Katy) Yenter, great grandchildren Sebastian Rublis, Brianna and Brady Rickert, Elijah, Silas, Caedmon, Keziah and Ezra Yenter.

Sisters-in-law Mary Orvis, Ruth (Jim) Somers, Judy Thaxton, Fran Wargolet, Brothers-in-law Dr. George Bogumill, Byron (Barbara) Bogumill, Michael Bogumill and many relatives and friends.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, parents in-law Clarissa and Edward Bogumill, her sister Shirley, ex-husband Ted Jansen, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Studzinski, Edward Bogumill, Joseph Bogumill, Bob Christenson, Carl Thaxton, Tom Wissmann, Harold Orvis, Bob Wargolet, Sisters-in-law Kathleen Bogumill, Bonnie Anderson Bogumill, Dorothy Roper Bogumill.

LaVerne was cremated. A memorial gathering will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 18255 West Capitol Drive in Brookfield, Wisconsin on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM,  followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.   A luncheon will be held after the mass at Maxim’s next to the church.
