Passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017, at the age of 90. Lyle is the loving husband of Faith (nee Christopherson), for 63 years. Brother-in-law of Dale (Virginia) Christopherson. Uncle of James, David (Julie), Jeffrey (Indu), and Steven (Maria). Great-uncle of Ryan, Tyler, Matthew, Peter, Andrew, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Katherine Christopherson. Special “Dad” of Kenneth Atkinson. Cousin of Donald Rhodes, Carole Heierle, and Carol (Richard) Porath. Also loved by other relatives and friends.
Born August 1, 1927 to Arthur and Edna Rhodes. Graduated from West Division High School in 1945 and Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1952. Taught for 38 years in Milwaukee Public Schools; served as Social Center Director for 15 of those years. Served in the US Army and stationed at West Point during WWII. Attained rank of Captain in Army Reserves, 84th Division, which he served for 20 years.
He was a member of Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church and their “Gray Panthers” (volunteer men’s maintenance group), Retired Men’s Club of Wauwatosa, McKinley Masonic Lodge, and volunteered 14 years as a driver for the Elmbrook Senior Taxi in Brookfield. Travel was another love which he shared with wife, Faith. The U.S. “Rockies” (Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado) were his favorites.
A memorial service will be held at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, 2366 North 80th Street in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 19, 2017, Gathering at 10:00 AM until time of Service at 12:00 Noon.
