Found new life in Christ, his savior, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband to Charlyn Hurst (nee Elmer) for 61 years, and proud and loving father to his children, Russell (Elizabeth), Wendy Matuszewski (Charles), Karen Aschenbrenner (John Carter), Brian (James Patterson) and Jennifer Krug (Eddie), as well as his 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Further survived by his sister, Alice Phillips, and brother Robert Hurst (Micki). Judy Hurst, Dee Hurst, and Katie Elmer are beloved in-laws, as well as friends too innumerable to count, but no less loved!
Manley was a proud veteran of the Korean War, winning the bronze star. He was a leader always, whether raising his family, guiding an explorer post for the boy scouts, serving as a master gardener, or as president of the Lion’s Club of New Berlin. Everyone who met him valued his patient and thoughtful approach to life. He taught us all enduring lessons with affirming and unconditional love. Dignified, respectful, and a Christ-filled source of endless inspiration and joy.
Manley served almost 20 years as the manager of the Kohl’s department store in West Allis, developing friendships that carried on throughout his retirement. Who could forget the apples! Manley loved fishing and gardening, caring for birds and squirrels from his front porch, and enjoying truly golden years with his bride, Charlyn, along with growing generations of family.
When asked how he was, Manley would inventively reply, “goodly!” Now in heaven, Manley is forever, “greatly!” You, our rock, will be sorely missed, but forever loved in our hearts.
