Margaret Ransburg Piper of Mequon, formerly of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 96. Margaret, called Margie by many who knew her, was a devoted wife and mother of four children. She had a lifelong passion for music and education and was a piano teacher, a volunteer for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Elm Grove Community United Methodist Church.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 13, 1925, Margie was the elder daughter of Frank Thruston Ransburg and Marian McCahan Ransburg. She attended Goucher College and the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Penn in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in Music and Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten for five years.
In 1952, Margie married William G. Piper, a graduate of Penn State and the Wharton School of Business. They moved several times before they settled in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, where they raised their four children. When Bill retired from the Bucyrus-Erie Company, they moved to Elm Grove. Margie and Bill enjoyed being members of Tuckaway Country Club.
Margie enjoyed hosting recitals for her piano students. She and Bill enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren, as well as taking trips to such places as Switzerland and Austria, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Bill died in 2007.
Margie leaves behind four children, Margaret (Ken) Royseck of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; Mary Reindorp of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; Bill (Carol) of Amity, Oregon; and Barb (Phil) of Grafton, Wisconsin. Also, grandchildren, Lauren, Austin, and Stephen Gould.
