Marion Louise nee Walker (Kindelberger) Crawley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin died on October 12, 2023, at 102 years of age.
She was the wife of Ervin Kindelberger until his death. Then the wife of Earl Crawley. She was the loving mother of Nancy (Bernard) Smith, Shirley (Merlin) Holtzen and Fred (Jean) Kindelberger and stepmother of Vivian Lyter. Marion was blessed with 5 grandchildren Debbie Stepp, Timothy Holtzen, Angelicka Veach, Jennifer (Dan) Buckley, Dawn (Matthew) Edwards. She was blessed with 5 Step grandchildren Paul Jr. (Patty) Lyter, Stephen (Cindy) Lyter, Adam Lyter, Matthew Lyter, and Andrew Lyter. She was blessed with 7 great grandchildren Charles Thomas Stepp, Cassandra (Justin Morehead) Stepp, Ethan (Ashley) Stepp, Michael (Stephanie Crook) Will Jr., Steven (Claire Seeke) Vreeland, Emma and Sara Edwards. She was blessed with 2 step great-grandchildren Cody (Erica) Lyter and Kayla (Jacob) Rainey. She was blessed with 8 great-great grandchildren Payton, Laurie, Brooklyn, Hunter, Brian, Brittany, Aden, and Mykala Stepp. She was blessed with 4 step great-great grandchildren Carmello Lyter, Milo, Jaxson and Bodhi Rainey. She was blessed with 1 great-great-great grandson Truit Stepp. She was the sister of Glenn (Eva) Corniels and Martha (Edward Hansen -D) (Otis) Middaugh. She was the aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Marion was born on April 18, 1921, just 10 minutes after her twin sister Martha Middaugh to John and Eleanore (Corniels) Walker in her grandparents, Andrew and Dorathea (Leifheit) Corniels, house in Yorkville, IL. Martha and Marion’s mother had gone to Heaven when they were still babies, so they were raised by their grandparents on the farm in Yorkville. They were baptized into Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended school there. They were confirmed on April 15, 1934. After being confirmed Marion moved to Aurora, IL where she did housework for families to support herself.
She then met the first love of her life, Ervin Kindelberger. At the age of 17 and Ervin 19 they married at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aurora, Illinois on November 26, 1938. The Lord blessed them with their three children, Nancy, Shirley, and Fred. Ervin and Marion along with their children had gone on many camping trips to varies states. They enjoyed taking family to the zoo. Marion had various jobs, working in the women’s clothing department at Woolworth, a clothing manufacture to package clothes, a crossing guard. While the war was on, she worked as making ammunition for the bullets that they used in war. Her last job was at Simpson Electric where she retired after 25 years. After the Lord blessed them with 44 and a half years of marriage Ervin went to his Heavenly home in 1983.
On a visit to see her twin sister in California she met the second love of her life, Earl Crawley. She then moved from Yorkville, Illinois to Redding, California and married Earl on July 30, 1986. While in California she learned to play golf, which she found she loved to do. She was blessed with joining a bowling league with Earl. They went on many trips together to visit family and friends. They lived there in California for 8 years and then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1994. They moved in with Fred and Jean for a while. Then they moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin until Earl’s health deteriorated. They then moved back into Fred and Jean’s house in 1996. Earl went to his Heavenly home in 1999. Marion continued to live with Fred and Jean.
When they moved to Milwaukee, they joined Nazareth Lutheran Church with Fred and Jean. She was very active in the church, participating in different groups like the Alter Guild and N.E.W. Guild. After the closing of Nazareth Lutheran Church, she found a new church home at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brown Deer. After becoming a member, she joined the Prayer Chain Group and the Women’s Ruth Guild.
Marion enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was able to visit with Shirley, Merlin and Tim in Nebraska. While she was in Nebraska, she found that she loved to paint scenery paintings. She made many trips to see her twin sister. You would often find Marion on the phone talking with her daughter and family on Sunday afternoon. During the week you find her on the phone with church members and other family members. Marion enjoyed doing different activities like golfing, shopping and different attractions around the area.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Ervin Kindleberger, second husband Earl Crawley, twin sister Martha Middaugh, brother Glenn Corniels, sister-in-law Regina Einsiedel, sister-in-law Lora Mae Errecarte, brother-in-law John Wagner, brother-in-law Edward Hanson daughter Nancy Smith, son-in-law Bernard Smith, stepdaughter Vivian Lyter, step grandson Matthew Lyter, Aunt Ruth Kartheiser, and Aunt Edna Wood.
A private visitation will be on Friday, October 27, 2023, for her immediate family only.
A public visitation at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 8080 North 47th Street, Brown Deer, WI will be on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 8:30 AM. Following the visitation, the service will be at 10:00 AM.
A second visitation and service will be held at Cross Lutheran Church 8609 IL-47, Yorkville, IL on Monday, October 30, 2023, visitation at 9:00 AM, service to follow at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Cross Lutheran Church Cemetery next to Ervin.
