Ms. Mary Bell was born in Monticello, Georgia (Jasper County) on April 26, 1944, to the holy matrimony of the late Milton L. Bell (Bell/Clemons) and Willie Lois Bell (McElheney/Horse). She spent her early childhood years in Monticello, Georgia and then moved to Milwaukee around 1960 where she completed her formal education and training. Mary was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age in Jasper County, GA. Mary loved sports, particularly basketball. It was her love of basketball that brought her to meet Johnny Burns with whom she had two children Reginald and Andrea Bell.
Mary graduated from North Division High School in Milwaukee, WI and went on to obtain her Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Milwaukee Area Technical College. Mary was regularly active in her community participating in community outreach and civil rights activism. Mary enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Veterans Administration where she retired after 35 years of service as an X-ray file clerk. She also worked for Children’s Hospital as a file clerk.
Mary enjoyed life and family. She demonstrated this love of life and family with all that she encountered. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling, live music, visiting casinos and in her leisure she often frequented local estate and rummage sales.
Mary is preceded in death by her mother and father (Willie Lois and Milton Bell), her brothers (Willie D. Bell, James Bell, and Jimmy Lee Bell (Skin). Mary is survived by her sister Mary Arlene Campbell, two children, Reginald (Eboney) Bell, Andrea Bell (Clinton Smith), eight grandchildren, Chris Bell (Brittney Bell), Ray Bell (Brittny Bell), Crystal Bell, Cory Bell (Alesha Gross), Reginald Bell Jr, Shawn Bell (Nashawn Browning), Jordan Bell, Nia Bell and a host of 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loving family.
Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM. Funeral Service 12:00 PM.
