My deepest sympathy goes out to Matt's family and friends. Matt was a great co-worker at JCI. I enjoyed working with him and he was such a great role model for everyone he worked with. He will be genuinely missed.

Gerry-so sorry for your loss. It’s so sad when you have to bury a child. I know that Matt has struggled with this for years, ,,all the time we have worked together at Habitat. We are in New York visiting the grandkids for Easter, so I will miss seeing you today. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our family was saddened to learn of Matt’s passing and wanted to share our happy memories of, and appreciation for Matt, who taught swim lessons to our 3 daughters when they were very young as part of his employment as a lifeguard. Over the summers at the outdoor pool, we have seen many teen lifeguards navigate their responsibilities, which included teaching swim lessons to kids of all ages. Matt was one of the best and a family favorite. Our oldest daughter had a very serious personality when she was a young swimmer and it took most of the summer, but Matt won her trust and helped her become a very confident swimmer. She went on to swim and dive in high school and participated in intramural swimming and diving in college. Somewhere we have a great picture of she and Matt, taken after the annual water follies event. He was patient, encouraging, and never took himself too seriously, which definitely helped when working with kids at a pool. He helped all three of our daughters learn to swim. We would occasionally see Matt at church on Christmas Eve and in our family, seeing Matt was a “celebrity sighting”. His kindness lives on in our hearts and we hope that these happy memories comfort you as you grieve. Blessings to all of you.

I met Matt not that many years ago and only saw him a few times over the years. He was married to one of my family members Jen so I want to share something about him we all may not have observed. He was living in a lot of agony that maybe only a few family members new and he NEVER showed it to many of us in any way. He was a true man when if you asked him how are you he always said fine. Not many people can suffer so much and not want his family and friends to suffer or worry about him. I think his strong will to go on and do the best he could with his issues had to come from being raised by a loving family and friends. Matt in his short time with us gave all of us a model to live by. I know a loving God will take him home and give him rest. God bless Matt and his family Don Fontecchio
