Mildred V. Emery

(nee Vrtis) passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 in hospice, after a battle with cancer. She was born February 19, 1936 to parents Charles Stanley Vrtis and Anna (nee Kucera) Vrtis. She attended St. Francis Xavier School and graduated from Nazareth Academy in La Grange, Illinois. She also attended St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

In 1955, Millie married the late Kenneth Lee Hanson. They raised three children, Kenneth Lee Jr, James Michael and Laura Sue. She later married the late Patrick Emery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Cecelia Colgrove and Susan Martinez; brothers Thomas and Charles; brothers-in-law Duane Colgrove, Robert Martinez, Mike Smith, George Hanson and David Hanson; father-in-law Ernest Hanson and mother-in-law Dorothy Hanson.

Millie is survived by her son Kenneth (Jane) Hanson Jr, granddaughter Amanda, step-granddaughter Lyndsey, step-great granddaughter Ruby; son Dr James (Jaime) Hanson, grandson Tyler (Erica), great grandchildren Nathan and Clara, grandson Evan (Angela), great grandchildren Griffin and Belle, grandson Alex (Holly); daughter Laura (Peter) Walsh, grandson Travis (Coryll), step-great granddaughter Mariah, great grandson Channing, grandson Kevin. Millie is further survived by her sisters Mary Smith and Martha DeMar; brother John (Beatrice); sisters-in-law Jane Hanson, Fritzie Vrtis and Joan Vrtis; and many nieces and nephews.

Millie was a championship bridge player and teacher as well as a proud PTA President and caretaker. She enjoyed board games and playing bingo as well as volunteering at St. Veronica Food Pantry.

Funeral celebration will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at St. Veronica Church, 353 East Norwich Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM, Mass at 11:00 AM.
