Peacefully entered God's Kingdom on August 22, 2011, after a long, courageous and determined fight with cancer. Exceptional, loving and beloved wife of the late Clemens C. Sylke. Loving and beloved mother of Clemens Thomas (Susan) Sylke and Andrew George (Becki) Sylke. Loving and very proud grandmother of and "Nonny" to Allison Christine. Also lovingly remembered by other relatives and countless friends, colleagues and hundreds of former students, especially her beloved Sigma Kappa sorority family. Treasured daughter of the late George B. and Minnie (Nee Struck) Bremer of Madison.A Madison native, Nancy earned her Bachelors Degree at UW-Madison in 1949. Throughout her life, she was both a student and a teacher, including more than 30 years teaching Home Economics at Whitefish Bay High School and its associated elementary schools, at MATC and for other groups and organizations " she taught cooking, sewing, embroidery, knitting, needlepoint, and a wide variety of other crafts and skills that now touch those students' families and households. Nancy faithfully served her church and her community in numerous capacities for more than 50 years. In the midst of battling her own cancer for more than 3 years, Nancy remained an active member of the Whitefish Bay Woman's Club " including its Teddy Bear group, which hand-crafts teddy bears for cancer patients " and an active member of Fox Point Lutheran Church's Piecemakers, which makes more than 100 quilts each year for Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Social Services, and families who were visited as part of Fox Point Lutheran Church's own mission trips. Nancy also was a student her entire life, learning and excelling in painting, upholstery and other skills, the fruits of which she shared generously with her family, friends and community. She also worked tirelessly with her husband and sons in planting, cultivating and harvesting thousands of pine and other trees at the family's two tree farms.Special gratitude goes to Dr. Scott Maul and the caring, professional staff of Oncology Alliance for a fight well fought, as well as Horizon Hospice at Columbia St. Mary's Ozaukee, all of whom showed exceptional care and concern.Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, all at Fox Point Lutheran Church, 7510 North Santa Monica Boulevard, Fox Point, WI. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Fox Point Lutheran Church in Nancy's memory, or to the American Cancer Society.
