Winke, Noel Joseph Born into Eternal Life on December 13, 2008, at age 92. Beloved husband of Lorraine (nee Lucic) for 62 years. Loving father of Diane (Tom Forer) Mann, Noel C., Lynne (David) Kern, Jeffrey (Carol), and Lee Ann Sahagun, and father-in-law of Cynthia Winke. Proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 10 great – grandchildren. Among his pleasures in life were a pre-dinner gin martini with two jumbo olives, Marquette University basketball, and flirting with the waitresses at Milwaukee's best restaurants. His successes in life included marrying the beautiful Lorraine Winke; raising and educating through university five children; and devotedly practicing his Catholic faith from his baptism at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in Milwaukee through his lifelong membership at St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Wauwatosa. He served in the U.S. Army's Engineering Corp. during WWII and fought in the two defining battles of the European theater – D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He froze his foot in the Battle of the Bulge and was fortunate to hear five magical words from the field doctor while waiting in line for an amputation: "I can save this one." Noel worked all of his life at Wisconsin Motors where he was a production manager. With less than a year before retirement, he was scheduled to be fired by the then new conglomerate management. He wisely rejoined the union, of which he had been a member in full standing before the war. The union saved his job for the remaining months and preserved his health care and pension which he has enjoyed throughout his life. Noel and his wife enjoyed international travel, visiting such places as El Salvador, Belgium, the Amazon, and Morocco. Thank you to the staff at Seven Oaks for their care and kindness toward our father. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Jude Parish or Messmer High School. Visitation at ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 734 N. Glenview, Wauwatosa, on Wed., Dec. 17, at 10:30AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Private entombment at Forest Home Cemetery.
