O. J. Myers was born on December 25, 1923 to the union of Arcola and Ollie Myers in Brandon, Mississippi. O. J. received his formal education at Rankin County School System in Brandon, Mississippi. O. J. was baptized at an early age. O. J. enlisted into the United States Army on March 24, 1943. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1945. His military history included service in Northern France, Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was honored with the following medals: EAMETO, Good Conduct (AGCM), and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the VFW, and would always be seen proudly wearing his World War II Veteran cap. He was employed by the City of Milwaukee as a sanitation worker for 28 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, driving to visit family in Mississippi and Florida, Potawatomi, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
O. J., fondly known as “Jack”, departed this life on February 20, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Arcola and Ollie Myers, and his sister Jessie Mae Hopson. He leaves to cherish his memory: loving companion Nora Wilson, sister Grace Singleton of Jackson, Mississippi, daughter Stella Myers (Flora Mae Myers) of Los Angeles, California, son Dennis Reed, daughter Denise Reed, daughter Sharon (Johnny) Chesnut, stepchildren Linda Rollins, Woodrow (Laura) Reed, Brenda Reed-Williams (Lula Belle Reed), all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He leaves his legacy of love and wisdom through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Funeral service at 11:00 AM.
The family of the late O. J. Myers acknowledges, with sincere appreciation, the many comforting messages, floral tributes and other expressions of kindness evidenced at this time in thought and deed.
