One more memory to share… When our sister Barbara’s son, Alan was small and my daughter, Aimee was a little girl we were visiting at our Mother, Sophie’s house. Bob and the kids were outside while he was washing his car. Bob kept getting the kids wet with the hose in order to hear them yelp and laugh. Finally, Alan turned off the hose and both kids ran into the house while yelling, “Ha, ha, Uncle Bobby.” To “help them out” I filled two pails with cold water. Bob ran into the house to catch the kids. The kids stood at the top of the stairs. They threw their pails of water on him. They squealed with delight calling out, “Ha, ha, Uncle Bobby, we got you!” while Bob laughed. Bob enjoyed the shower as much as the kids did.

I remember Bob and his kindness in traveling all the way from Milwaukee to Philadelphia for my marriage to Richard. His was a welcome presence at the ceremony and reception. I remember, too, how helpful he was when we moved to Milwaukee. He would assist us with everything from putting in a pole for a laundry line to fixing up things in our house. He always had time to help anyone who needed it. I remember his laugh, his smile, and his love for Nate. A light has gone out from the world with Bob's death. I hope he finds peace and joy in the afterlife.

One of my best memories of Bob is his coming to Philadelphia to visit me when I was in graduate school and teaching. We had the chance to drive to Atlantic City to see the MIss America Pageant. We had a terrific time. On the way home the car died. We had to push it across the Walt Whitman bridge-a quite formidable bridge in Philadelphia. Bob had to leave the next day. He had to take public transportation to the airport since my car was dead. He got up very early in the morning taking care not to wake me up. Some how I woke up to discover him gone. I ran from my apartment. I saw Bob walking to the bus stop about two blocks away. I ran and ran. I was able to catch him. Crying I hugged him, thanked him for coming to visit me, and said good-bye. Now once again, Bob has slipped away. Only this time I wasn't able to catch up with him to hug him and say good-bye. With love, Uncle Richard
