(Nee Wille) passed away on April 8, 2019 at age 77. Partner of June Nowakowski, loving mother of Katherine (Jammie Kirkland), Elizabeth (Brian Bautz) and Kristin (Kevin Gilbert) as well as grandmother to Andrew Horner (Catherine), Jennifer (Chris Hall), Mikayla Linscott, Ian Linscott, Eleri Linscott, Sam Degelau, Ben Degelau and 1 great-grandchild, Kensington. She is also survived by her sister Yvonne Roman.
Sandy always said she felt young throughout her career as a gero-psych nurse in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. She earned her Master’s degree and gained prescriptive authority while still working full time and raising her younger daughters. She spent most of her professional career helping older adults and their families and she cherished that work, getting to know people as she made home visits. She was an avid camper, played guitar and enjoyed the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. She was a strong, hard-working, independent woman and instilled those values in her daughters. She was very grateful for her life with June. In addition to much traveling with the camper, they had years-long cribbage competitions and just enjoyed being silly.
Sandy wanted to be cremated, but from young on, whenever asked what she wanted for her funeral, she provided the stock answer, “What the (heck) do I care? I won’t be there.” She was incredibly practical. In light of that, there will be a private cremation but celebration of life at a park on June 1 for all those who would like to share memories. We thought that seemed a fitting way to say goodbye. For information about the celebration, please email bethbautz1@gmail.com.
Memorials in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
