Dear June and Family, I am so sad to learn of your loss. Sandy and I shared an office for her entire career at Waukesha County DHSS. Your description of her is so apt - intelligent, dedicated to her calling, hardworking, strong, independent, practical. Your photo of her is perfect too - that is exactly what she looked like when we would crack an inside joke about the 'goings on' in the workplace. ;) Nobody could get down to the meat of the matter more expertly or quickly than Sandy as we tried to help and serve people facing some of the toughest circumstances that life has to offer. Sandy taught me a lot, personally and professionally. Many of our staff sought regular consultation with her on tough cases. And she was a wonderful friend during the time of life that we shared. Talk of our families was ample, as was talk on various philosophical and spiritual questions - whether big or small - of our human condition. She even let me drive her big dually truck a few times - enough for me to know that I shouldn't ever buy one! Having retired myself now, it had been my intent to try and reconnect with Sandy. So my biggest regret is that I delayed in doing so - which is not how Sandy, with her structured and organized style, taught me to handle things. I have no doubt that her legacy lives on in all of you. May God fill you with the peace that comes with knowing that Sandy indeed lived a full life - a life that held both the serious and the silly, love for family and friends, and the satisfaction of skilled work and savored recreation. Sandy left her corner of the world better than when she found it. Imagine if we could all do that. My heartfelt sympathy, Mindy Wirth

Memories of playing racquetball , planning menus for boundary waters camping, then camping in the boundary waters , and frequent phone contacts for gero psych resources. Other memories abound.

I’ll never forget - Sandy and her daughter Beth hosted an epic sleepover circa 1980. The entire fifth grade must have been there. Sandy put up with our giggling and silliness into the wee hours. And it was pancakes for breakfast. It was a party for the record books. And there were many more fun times after that in Sandy’s home. Thank you for the memories.
