Sister of the Divine Savior Bernice Smith, SDS was born December 31, 1949 in Saginaw, Mich. She entered the Sisters of the Divine Savior in Milwaukee in 1995 and was professed 19 years. Sister Bernice received a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Cardinal Stritch University in 2001. She ministered to the homebound at St. Mary’s Visitation in Elm Grove, Wis. and later served the parish as director of child ministry. Sister Bernice also served as administrative assistant at the Sisters of the Divine Savior provincial office in Milwaukee, and was elected to the province leadership team in 2012. Sister Bernice entered eternal life on Sunday, October 15, 2017 after a recent hospitalization. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Helen (Nauman) Smith. She is survived by her brothers Elmer (Juanita) and Leo (Kim), sisters Theresa Haefner, Rosalie (Don) Johnson and Christine (Richard) Thompson, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, a grand niece and the Salvatorian Family.
Visitation on Friday, October 20, 2017 will begin at 12 noon at St. Anne’s Salvatorian Campus Chapel, 3800 North 92nd Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A remembering service will follow at 12:45 PM and the Mass of Christian burial at 1:00 PM. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, October 21, 2017.
