Stephen “Steve” Scott Manning passed away on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 at age 63 after a three and a half year battle with brain cancer. Steve was laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery in their Prairie Rest area, where he’ll be close to the final resting place of his mother Lois and his step-father Sam. He was a caring husband to Sandy for 41 years, loving son of Lindley Manning and Lois Sammons, proud father of Ryan and Corey, and supportive brother to Sharon, Karen, and Eric.
Steve was born in Cincinnati and met his wife Sandy in Madison, Wisconsin, where they both attended college. While Steve was in school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he worked at Uncle Stanley’s, a local arcade where he would grow his love of pinball and video games. Sandy would stop by occasionally with her then-boyfriend, but when he and Sandy broke up, she and Steve began their lifelong relationship. They decided to make the move from Madison to Milwaukee, and that was where Steve spent the rest of his days.
Steve was a man that loved to teach those around him. This trait helped him become an amazing father, as well as a father figure to many. He found joy in helping coworkers and friends learn, grow their skill sets, and become the best version of themselves. He lit up when he had a chance to share some niche technical knowledge, work through a challenging coding problem, or share his favorite strategy in whichever game he was currently playing.
Steve’s favorite way to express himself was through humor. He had a hearty laugh that filled any room, and he delighted in bringing joy (or at least a chuckle) to those around him. To him, riffing and bantering with someone else was like a sport, but he was never playing to beat his partner, only to make sure they both walked away smiling.
There will be a memorial service for family and friends held on Sunday, August 6th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, 1111 East Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
