Presvytera Demetra “Toula” Trifon
June 18, 1950 – October 27, 2023
Presvytera Toula, age 73, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 27, 2023, as a result of an unexpected affliction.
Toula was born in the village of Kastro, Ilias in Greece. She was the third of six children born to Vasili and Maria Haralambopoulos. At the young age of 12, Toula left her home in Greece and was sent to live with her aunt in Lincoln, Nebraska. She stayed there until the age of 17, when she returned to Greece to visit her family. At that point, she was introduced to her future husband Theodore Trifon. They were engaged and married in June of 1967. They returned to the United States to start their married life together. In July of 1968 they were blessed with their first-born son. A second son followed in 1971. After her husband Theodore was ordained to the priesthood in 1972, they moved to Minot, North Dakota. There they welcomed third child, a daughter, in November of 1974. They later moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 1977, and their final move was to Wisconsin in 1983.
Throughout her many years as a Presbytera, Toula immersed herself in the church and its community. She especially enjoyed working with the youth, always lending a hand whenever she could at Greek school, GOYA and other youth events. Her boundless generosity and care extended throughout the entire community, to the Philoptochos, fish fry, festivals, and beyond. She played the part of a teacher, a mentor, a comedian, a role model, and a friend to all. Her family has been honored by an outpouring of heartfelt support and love from the community; a testament to the number of people she touched in her life.
Toula found her greatest joy in her family. She was a loving and supportive wife to her husband for over 56 years. She was the best mother her kids could ever ask for. She was blessed with three grandchildren who she deeply cherished and enjoyed spending so much time with. And most recently she was thrilled to meet and enjoy a great-grandson. She was her family’s rock, their caretaker, their friend, their support system, their everything. She will be greatly missed.
Toula is preceded in death by her parents Vasili and Maria, her son Bill, brother Aggelos, and sister Kiki. She is survived by her husband Fr. Theodore, children Nako and Tasa (Michael) Stavropoulos, grandchildren Niko, Mia and Teddy (Liz), great grandson Basil, siblings Ari, Popi (Zois), and Giota, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and close friends.
