It was his smile. I don't care what anyone brought to the table on a given day, that smile and his hand on your shoulder would set you free. Vern was a gift.

Dear Mary, Andrew and Christen, How sad it is to hear of Vern's passing. He was the kind of man you wanted influencing this world forever. As a support teacher, I was in all of the elementary school buildings in West Allis & was blessed to meet Franklin Elementary's Principal, Mr. Messersmith. Vern set a tone of caring about everyone who entered his building - students, parents, teachers, everyone!. The atmosphere of welcome & respecting, & caring was evident each time I walked into Franklin. Then I met you, Mary, as the GCT teacher for our daughters, and it certainly made sense that you would be Vern's wife & he your husband! Andrew & Christen, thank you for sharing both of your parents with so many other kids & their families. I pray that the memories of the love and care Vern gave to you, & the knowledge of the positive influence he was on the lives of those who knew him, brings you joy for his life on earth & now in the presence of God. In Peace, Mary

Our hearts are with you Mary and Andy on this very sad day. We only knew Vern for a short amount of time but felt we got to know him well. He had a wonderful dry sense of humour and could make us laugh with his one line comments and infectious laughter. We will carry these memories with us always. All our love, Jan and Martin x
