Vernita Lee was born to Ernest Lee and Hattie Mae Presley in Kosciusko, Mississippi on May 2, 1935, and she passed away on November 22, 2018, at the age of 83. Vernita loved to cook and started baking cakes with her mom at the early age of eight. She moved to Milwaukee in 1958, where she worked at St. Michael’s Hospital as the head cook, once again using her talents. She attended Metropolitan Church and sang in the choir.
Survived by her caring and devoted daughters, Oprah Winfrey and Patricia Amanda Faye Lee. Grandmother of Alisha Hayes, Chrishaunda Lee Perez, Aquarius Lofton, Kenny Lloyd, Keith Lloyd, and Andre Brown. Great grandmother of Trinity Hayes, Donovan Hayes, Jaxon Praise Perez, and Chai Perez. Preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Lee; daughter, Patricia Lee Lloyd; and siblings: Susie Mae Peeler, Harold Lee, Willie Estelle Burt, Hubert Lee, Lamar Lee, and Lafaye Lee. Further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
