Bruce was my Godfather & also my younger sister Colleen's. We didn't get to see him very often when he started playing with the Lions...but we were always proud of the man he became. I always enjoyed playing guitar & singing with him, my dad Paul, Aunt Judith & other family members. I loved going to the football games at U of D & the Lions fun times with pride in our hearts. He leaves a beautiful memory for all of us especially his wife Gerda & their children. He maybe gone but he will never be forgotten as he lives within each of you. Our deepest sympathy to our Maher Family at this difficult time. XOXO

To the Bruce Maher family, you are in my thoughts. Bruce was my childhood hero. I have fond memories of going to U of D college and Lions games with my dad and you always made time to see and talk to us after the games. You made my dad so proud. May you be at peace.

My condolances to the Maher family during this time. God's help to you all during this bereavement time. I was on the Univ. of Detroit football with Bruce in the mid fifties. Bruce will always be remembered by his team mates. He was an impact player and personality for sure. God bless the Maher family.

My sincere condolences to the family. I know Bruce was proud of all his kids. Bruce was one of the more colorful guys at the JCC. There isn't enough room to tell all the stories about Bruce. Always fun to play with and against. Obviously a great athlete and he always had the love and respect of all the other players. He will be missed by all. Dale R

I am proud to have been a friend of this amazing human being. May you Rest In Peace Mr Maher I will always cherish my memories of our time together as friends and teammates/ adversaries in our old timers basketball league but most importantly I will miss celebrating the happy times, especially our Thursday nights with all the boys’! One of the most generous and loving human beings I have encountered in my 59 years of life. The world has lost not only one of the all-time great athletes in professional sports but more importantly we have lost an awesome person who has brought so much and happiness and joy to all the people in his life.

The Vesnaugh family was so blessed to enjoy Bruce’s company at many a party. As a kid I was in awe of this man and his hilarity. He brought us joy, laughter and guitar music at every party. RIP Bruce
