Age 64 of Waukesha, left this earth and went to meet his Lord on Sunday morning, January 7, 2018. His unexpected passing was caused by complications from the influenza virus. Al was born in Milwaukee on May 14, 1953 to Alfred and Arbutus Eckhart. Al graduated from West Allis High School in 1971, where he was the ping pong champion. He followed at MATC with a carpentry degree. Al married Jody Spalding (daughter of James and Beverly Spalding) in 1974, to the regrets of her mother, Beverly Spalding. Eventually Beverly came around to love Al, just as most people that got to know his humorous and generous heart. Al enjoyed playing ping pong, coaching his kid’s soccer teams, playing catch and shooting hoops with his sons, watching his sons sporting events, watching the Wisconsin sports teams, vacationing with his wife and friends to Vegas and Florida, and golfing with his friends and sons Jason and Aaron. Al and Jody currently looked forward to playing cards with their friends every Saturday.

Al worked hard as a cook, carpenter, and painter before starting a home building business with Jody, which he poured his heart into. He built “every home as if it was their own.” He became the President of the Metropolitan Builders Association in 2003. Woodhaven homes became the MBA builder of the year in 2004. He eventually passed the family business onto his son Aaron, whom had been working with him for 20 years. Al enjoyed mentoring Aaron as much as he could with the passed down family business.

Al will be dearly missed by his Wife Jody, Sons Aaron (Corinne) Eckhart and Jason (Leah) Eckhart. Al loved watching his family grow and his presence will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Madison, Nora, Kaeden, Isaac, and Brayden. He is also survived by his mother Arbutus Bachman (Steinley), sisters Bonnie (Phil) Desmond, Donna (Alex) Horvat, nephew Alex (Jessica) Horvat, nephew Alan (Carolyn) Horvat, niece Dana (George) Kay, sister in-law Candy (Rick) Preu, nephew Eric Preu, niece Emily (Adam) Ably, and brother in-law James (Betsy) Spalding.

The Funeral Service for Al will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the chapel at Elmbrook Church, 777 South Barker Road, Brookfield, WI 53045. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1:00 PM outside the chapel until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Elmbrook Church.
