Adored wife for 60 years of her late husband Steve. Devoted mother of Sandi, Patti, and Ginny. Honored mother-in-law of Joe Allen and Tom. Treasured grandmother of Keith, Jon Allen, Stefan Alex, and Todd. Cherished great-grandmother (GG) of Seattle. She will also be missed by many relatives and friends.
Audrey was co-owner of Strehlow Paint and Hardware in Bay View where she was born and raised. Former customers of the neighborhood store still have fond memories of the friendly business run by Steve and Audrey along with their loyal staff.
Audrey graduated from Carroll College in 1942 where she met Steve, the love of her life. They spent years together singing and dancing with their friends. In October of 2017 she alone represented her graduating class for its 75th anniversary and was honored at the home of the University’s President – a special thrill for her.
Audrey began her volunteer services as a Girl Scout leader of her girls’ grade school troops. She was an active member of New Berlin Senior Citizens for 30 years, participating in her beloved chorus and as a member of the Travel Club. She was active in the Waukesha Elks Club and American Legion Auxiliary, receiving an award in 2004 for her many years of volunteer services, especially with the veterans. Her favorite volunteering stint was with the Timber Wolf Preservation Society, caring for adult and new-born wolves. She shared her love of the outdoors and animals with her family and many friends.
Audrey was a leader and organizer everywhere she lived, urging everyone she met to join her in many activities.
She touched the lives of many people with her love and caring, leaving each one of us better for having known her. As a single person among many, she left a giant footprint on this earth.
The motto she lived by every day of her life: “Keep a song in your heart.” – – – – so please keep singing!
Our celebration of Audrey’s life is on April 3, 2018 at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin. Visitation is 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by the celebration of her life service.
