Avis Margarette Brown was born December 20, 1957, to the union of Henry and Roxie Brown in Chicago, Illinois. Avis was called home to the Lord on January 18, 2018. She was the fourth of five children.
Avis married Ricky Wright, Sr. and to this union two children were born. She later married the Reverend Bobby Nichols, no children were born to this union.
She was a beloved wife, mother and friend.
Avis confessed her faith in Christ at an early age, and united with the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin under the leadership of Rev. John H. Brent.
Avis received her formal education within the Milwaukee Public School system. Avis continued her pursuit of higher education as she studied at the American Baptist College in Nashville, TN where she majored in Theology. She also studied at Ottawa University, in Brookfield, Wisconsin where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. During her college tenure she pledged Zeta Phi Beta Incorporated, and wore her colors proudly.
Avis leaves a legacy of being actively involved within her community. Avis served on the Advisory Board of the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative for (3) years. She was a Board member of the Milwaukee Center for Leadership Development; a Community Liaison for Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin. She was an advocate for foster families with the Fostering Hope program; she also worked closely with the Wisconsin Donor Network. Avis was compassionate about building and strengthening community relations.
Avis was also a minister of the Gospel. She loved to share the love of God. She provided comfort through His word. She loved God and was a person who was always witnessing for God through song, and scripture.
She volunteered many hours to countless organizations, always looking to have a positive impact on the lives of others.
In 2010 Avis opened her non-profit Soaring in the Spirit. Soaring in the Spirit was placed in the heart of Avis as she pursued her mission of living for Christ. Soaring in the Spirit was founded on the principle that each individual is a spirit and exists to live a life that exemplifies its created purpose. Avis impacted many lives through her ministry.
During Mrs. Nichols career she most recently worked at the Milwaukee Bar Association, she was also a licensed Life and Health insurance agent for Texas and Wisconsin. Avis was dedicated to educating individuals especially the elderly about affordable health. She worked diligently within the insurance industry making a difference in the lives of individuals by helping them secure their present financial goals and build a legacy for the future.
Avis had many hobbies, which included co-authoring a book titled “Tying the Knot Between Ministry and the Marketplace”.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children: Ricky Wright, Jr (Lisa), Patrice Wright. Four grandchildren Juwan Wright, Timmia Roberts, Ricky Wright, III, Rikita Drummond (Justin) and one great grand-daughter Ava. Three brothers: Ronald Brown (Ethel), Donald Brown (Fannie), James Brown and one sister Wanda Brown. Along with a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
As Mrs. Avis would say this is the Base bottom Line and I leave with Something to think about.
