My Dinner Date: Everyone here has a rainbow of memories dancing in their head about Uncle Basil. We all know that he wasn't always the "calmest" person. I know that I couldn't use him on my EMS helpline with the ZEAL that he had no trouble sharing with one and all! Still, he was loved. Dad (Uncle Donnie) and Uncle Basil constantly spoke with each other, and throughly enjoyed each others company. Dad dialed the phone, and if I heard LIEN!!!, I knew that the phone was off limits for quite awhile. Gab, gab. Still, they always had something to genuinely talk about. As far back as I can remember, I had family that I grew up with, played with, celebrated birthdays and holidays with, and generally navigated through all the boys. Uncle Basil and Dad had to be my interpreter once in awhile, since I wasn't always "fluent" in boy-speak. I wasn't girlie afraid of so many things because of the two of them. I remember a most honored time being when Uncle Basil was working in Eau Claire, and he called me at the dorm, picked me up, and he took me out for a wonderful dinner. We actually talked, and it turned into an evening I cherish to this day. He made me feel special in that moment. There are too many tidbits of times from cruises and trips with both Aunt Elaine and Uncle Basil that stay glued in memory. Their cruise has now docked at the next port, and their celebration is riding high. For us, the greatest adventure of all is the trip we're still on. One thing I'm sure of, our legacy from Uncle Basil and all of the others that went on ahead is that this family embraces parties, goes traveling, and with blessings are able to enjoy our moments. That's why these are given to us as a "present". Sending all of my love, Cousin Nancy (Walter - husband)

Grandpa was a great man and lived a full life. He left behind a legacy of people who loved him, especially his son, my father. He raised an exceptional man who in turn raised me and I couldn’t be more blessed. I’m happy that I was able to see him so much these past few years and visit when I came home. We always would talk about engineering and the latest classes that I was taking in college. He made sure to emphasize that I better be getting good marks, and I assured him that I was. Visiting him and taking him on trips in dad’s convertible get pizza and ice cream always made his day and all of ours in return. He will be dearly missed but is now at peace and is finally with grandma in heaven. I love him and will miss that man. Thanks for everything grandpa.

As all of you grieve for the loss of you dad and grandpa, we grieve with you and can only say as Jesus said "well done, thou good and faithful servant. We just have to pass on a timely, funny event that happened when you dear mom/grandmother would host a dinner party for our group of 8 (we were the girls from MONY. Your mom was always the hostess with the mostess. She served baked chicken that evening. Tom asked for the salt and it was passed to him. As he picked it up there was a little "grease" on the shaker and it slipped through his hand and dropped right smack dab in the middle of the plate. The plate literally broke in two. SILENCE, UTTER SILENCE; then our precious Jane with a high pitched voice said TOM, YOU BROKE THE PLATE. your mom quickly came scoo ped up the food and brought him a different plate. Tom said "that will be my plate from now on. I kept wishing the floor would just open up and take us down. The service for 8 was probably the Norataki China your sent sent home from Korea. We tried for years to replace it, but no luck. Every time since then when we were at your home, your dad would put a long face on and say "I get this one because Tom broke the plate". Your parents were so dear to us and we will miss the phone calls we can no longer make to your dad. Your dad was oh so ready to go on to the next phase of his life. Love and God's Blessings, Tom and Carol Hanson

Basil was a joy when he used to come into the Merrill Lynch office in Pewaukee to make his deposits. We knew him for many years, he always made us laugh, he always had a story to tell. Our prayers are sent to your family...
Tom Kennedy - nephew left a message on March 6, 2018:
Uncle Basil and Aunt Elaine are back together. They took me in after the loss of my parents in high school. Even with a full house - Mark, Eric, Todd and Jeff were all very important and helpful to me. Watching all the boys find success and families of their own has been Base and Elaine's joy. They are loved and will always be remembered and I am forever thankful for the Lien's. Thank You Tom Kennedy
