Bob Janik left a message on January 2, 2019:
I met Don when I was 6 years old when my mother traded in her 1953 Ford for a brand new 1958 at Heiser Ford, then on Prospect Ave. In a sense, I "grew up" identifying Don as the best car man known and I'll always remember him that way. He used to call me "Bobby" when I was 6 and when I bought a couple of new cars through him. I say "through him" because, by the time I bought my '72 Pinto and later '76 Mustang, Don was no longer the salesman, rather the manager. How can anyone forget his friendly smile and outgoing demeanor. I never did. It's been 60 plus years now since I first met Don as a kid and he called me "Bobby". How fortunate Don's family for having him in your lives. My condolences and fond memories.

I will always remember Don for his calm insightful demeanour. He and I shared a great interest in military history and I remember well the times he and shared touring museums and discussing the artifacts. He was a real gentleman and I will always enjoy our memories.

On behalf of the Tennessee Automotive Association, I extend our sincere condolences to the family. On a personal note, I send my love and appreciation for this man who was quick to offer me the gift of his friendship more than 30 years ago when I joined him in representing the interests of the retail Motor Vehicle industry. I count my interactions with Don and his family over the years as special times...always filled with great advice, a welcoming handshake...and lots of laughter. It was a privilege to work along side of him and learn from him. Sincerely
