Ellen Johanna Schruba was welcomed into heaven on April 20, 2022, at age 65. Ellen was born on July 12, 1956. She was the youngest of Glenn and Dolores Schruba’s four children, and little sister to her three brothers: Bill, Rick, and Dave.
Ellen was a baptized, confirmed, life-long member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church-Milwaukee, where she participated in choir, youth group, Bible-Study, talent shows, and many sunrise Easter breakfast preparations. She played catcher for the women’s softball team and was a youth group counselor (chaperoning several Lutheran Youth Conventions and many other trips). Ellen truly was an ardent fan at the OSLC men’s softball games, often heckling not only the opposing team but our own team as well.
She graduated from John Marshall High School, where she played bass in the orchestra, lettered in soccer, and was a member of the synchronized swimming team. After high school, Ellen attended MATC and received her degree as a surgical tech.
Ellen retired in 2021, after being employed for 43 years at Columbia/St Mary’s Hospital. For most of her career, she worked as a surgical tech, and most recently in Central Supply. She really loved being a doting aunt. Her love of travel and any excuse for a road trip, often took Ellen to life’s celebrations of her nieces and nephew. She especially enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Gail, by her side.
Ellen was a fun-loving and fiercely loyal friend. She loved camping with the “Happy Campers” and joined in many other friends’ and family campouts.
Many knew her as an enthusiastic singer, who enjoyed belting out the songs of Gene Pitney, the Beach Boys, and many other favorites.
Ellen is survived by her brothers: Bill (Tryphine), Rick, and Dave (Kathy); as well as her nieces and nephew: Emily (Tom) Zeuske, Michael Schruba, Kate (Dustin) Mensing, Anne Schruba, Mary (Nathan) Arnold, Margaret Schruba, and Alice Schruba; and grand-nephews and nieces: William Zeuske, and Emma, Jacob, and Claire Arnold.
