Uncle Eugene was clearly a self made man proud of his accomplishments and abilities to figure stuff out as a carpenter. He held me captive listening to stories of projects he had worked on. To this day I remember him and his family showing up at our wedding in their hippie bus. How adventuresome was that !! I always look forward to visits with him on his annual treks to Las Vegas. Uncle Eugene was always there when family members lost love ones or were ill. My uncle will be missed. Our condolences go out to his family (My Cousins) for your loss. He lived a long and rewarded life. Our thoughts are with you.

My favorite memory of Uncle Eugene and Aunt Bev, is from when they and he family came to visit us in Amarillo,Texas in the sixties. They drove down in a converted school bus painted in the very best hippie style. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Jeffery and I played a lot of chess. +May angels escort him into the Paradise of his God, May Light Perpetual shine upon him, may he Rest In Peace, and may his memory be Eternal. + I shall remember Uncle Eugene and Aunt Bev in the cannon of the Eucharist this Sunday on the Feast of the Holy Trinity.

There are so many ways I hope Grandpa is remembered. For his sacrifices early in life to help his family. For his military service. For being a self-made carpenter/businessman. For raising a great family. I will always remember the look of pride he had on his face on those occasions where the entire family could meet for a meal and to catch up with each other. Grandpa was a true self-made man, one that I admired considerably and will miss even more. I love you Grandpa, and I hope you and Grandma are already dancing again.

One of my fondest memories of Grandpa was the Honor Flight I took with him in Spring of 2017. For those that don't know, they call it the honor flight because it is a flight that honors our Veterans by flying them out to D.C. to view all the major war memorials but it kinda felt like an honor to me just to be included in his day. He was so happy to go on this trip. It was a long day though and around lunch time he really started craving a McDonald's Hamburger that the sub sandwiches the tour provided didn't fully suffice him. Through all the sharing of old war stories with fellow veterans, viewing of war memorials, being thanked by random crowds of strangers throughout D.C. (many of them kids and students), and the "letters from home" that were so kindly prepared for him on the flight home I'm sure that hamburger was the last thing on his mind. I have nothing but great memories of Grandpa and I feel at peace knowing that he lived such a great life and raised a tremendous family. I love you, Grandpa.. Always. Cory.
