Jean Millard was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George and Myrtle Petran. She enjoyed family vacations on Big Lake near Three Lakes, WI , at a very young age. She and her sister, Lois, liked to hike, have picnic lunches, and proudly developed their calluses by rowing wooden boats on Big Lake. She also spent time with her Uncle Bill on his farm near Sullivan, Wisconsin. In the winter time, Jean liked to sled on a wooden sled with steel runners on it. Her name was brightly painted on it. That sled still exists and works just fine. She took lessons on the clarinet in grade school and continued playing in the Washington High School band.
Jean graduated in 1941, just prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the start of WWII. She took advantage of an opportunity to attend a number of USO dances at Fort Sheridan, Illinois with service men before they shipped out. A couple weeks in the summer were still spent on Big Lake.
Jean worked as a secretary at Marine National Exchange Bank in Milwaukee, later known as Marine Bank. She then worked for Inland Steel, but ended her employment after marrying her husband, Frank Millard on June 9, 1951, who had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Son, Mark, was born in 1953 and another son, David, was born in 1955.
While the boys grew up, Jean developed a strong interest in bowling and at times, was on three different leagues and was a secretary of a number of them. Her active bowling career spanned forty years, during which she made numerous friends. She never missed her two weeks up north, which trumped bowling with no question. Jean enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and continued following the players and the game for her whole life. Language was always of interest to her and she was great at cross word puzzles.
More joy came into Jean’s life with the birth of her grandchildren. Diane, Mark’s loving wife, delivered Carl and Sally. Dave’s wonderful wife, Lynn, delivered Katie. But even greater pride came with the birth of her great-grandchildren by Sally and her husband, Craig; Elijah and Meira. Carl and his wife, Karen, gave her Thomas and Laura. Katie and her husband, Wes, gave Jean her fifth great grandchild, Harper. Jean loved taking the train to Florida to visit Dave’s family and enjoyed the company of family members each time she traveled.
More important than any earthly achievement, Jean accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, recommitting her life to Him on March 3rd, 2016.
Services will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Monday, September 24, 2018, 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
