Adam Baker left a message on October 2, 2021:
To me, John is my cool uncle, cracking jokes and kidding around with us like most grownups don't. He really embraces the craziness of a Baker Family Christmas, as excited as the children in a frenzy of wrapping paper, noise, and new toys. One time, we watch home movies on a projector. My uncle as a mischievous boy chases down his Uncle Laffey's chickens with the same sense of fun. I surmise he is the wildcard in that hand of Baker kids. As we grow older, he gives up countless weekends and down-time to fix the various rust wagons I bring to him that mean the world to me. A labor of love not just for my jalopies, but all his friends and family that needed a repair. He lives passionately and selflessly in a way I wish I did, and even when I only see him infrequently after moving out west, shows genuine excitement to see me and interest without judgement in my latest goings-on. In that Great Hereafter I hope we can share a couple bottles of High Life from his bottomless cooler on that beach resort in paradise. I miss my uncle for now, but will never not hear his unmistakable laugh!
