1st Sgt Lowell Mortimer USMC (Retired)
Handyman
Lowell “Mort” entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of Joann Mortimer (Carroll) for 61 years. He was the proud father of Lowell (Brigite Muller) Mortimer, Jr, Robert (Chris) Mortimer, and Catherine R. Mortimer. He was blessed with 5 beautiful grandchildren, Catherine, Tina, Melissa, Ryan, and Kimilea, AND 4 Great-grandchildren, Landon, Caleb, Noah, and Ethan.
He proudly served his country for 20 years in the USMC (Retired). After his service to his country, he worked for the USPS (retired) for 20 years. Mort served with the Seabees and ultimately was made an Honorary Seabee. He was a dedicated member of the Chapter 1 Viet Nam Vets, 3rd Marine Division Association, VFW, and the American Legion Post. He was constantly volunteering his time and skills to many military-based projects. And if that wasn’t enough, Mort started his own business as a Handyman and helped out folks who needed those “Honey Do” lists completed.
Mort and Joann decided to try a new adventure and became Snow Birds and spent many winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama soaking up the sun and enjoying retirement. He enjoyed the great fishing, shuffleboard, cards and helped organize many social events for all to enjoy. What he enjoyed most were the lifelong friendships with fellow Snow Birds from all over the country.
In September 2019, Mort and his son, Robert, were able to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. Mort was truly moved by the welcome home for which he deserved and was long overdue. It truly was a day for him to remember. It was one of his greatest moments that, as a family, we were able to share with him.
What Mort really enjoyed the most in life, was spending time with his children and grandchildren. It brought great pleasure to him sharing his wisdom, advice, and daily jokes. He had never-ending love for his family. He was the Father you wanted in your corner when you were down to lift you up and tell you that you will overcome the hardships. He will be greatly missed by so many, but we can be assured that he is watching over us every day.
We love you Dad, thank you for being a wonderful example of a Marine, Husband, Father, Grandpa, and Friend.
