Mattie Ann Davis (nee Heady) was born on June 11, 1934, in Barlow, Kentucky to the union of Aulsay Heady and Lena Heady (nee Hollowell).
Ann accepted Christ at an early age. She received her formal education in the Bandana, Kentucky school system. After moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1948, Ann graduated from North Division High School on June 12, 1952. She went on to achieve her Associates Degree in Business from the Milwaukee College of Business.
For many years, Ann worked as a nanny for many of Milwaukee’s prominent families; she loved caring for these children. As an adult, Ann found employment at Square D Company, A.C. Spark Plug, and General Motors. Ann held several positions at General Motors during her 40 year career there. She was an active member of Local #1169, International Union of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) where she served as a union steward for a period of time.
In 1951, Ann met the love her of life, George Millard Davis and the two were married on February 11, 1956 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church. To this union, two children were born Ingrid Reneé and Rita Lorraine. She cared for George after her retirement until his death, August 2000.
Ann was a faithful member of Greater Galilee Baptist Church for many years. Under the leadership of the late Rev. E.B. Phillips, she was instrumental with the start-up of the Greater Galilee Baptist Church Credit Union. Ann’s love for God and the work for the Lord ever increased as she served diligently on many boards (most notably, the Deaconess Board) throughout the years. She was a member of the Milwaukee Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Ann was committed and dedicated to serving God, accomplished numerous achievements, and along the way touched the lives of many. Because of her caring heart, she showed love and kindness to all. Many would call and/or stop by just to visit or seek her counsel. Everybody loved “Ma” or “Ma Davis” as she was sometimes called. Ann devoted her life to her family. Nothing made her as happy as having her family around her. She loved to tell stories of her childhood and had planned to write a book about her life. Ann was an inspiration to her daughter on how to live a good and fulfilling life with grace, dignity and character.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, Ann Davis silently departed this life to rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Rita; and parents, Aulsay and Lena Heady.
She will always be cherished by her daughter, Ingrid Davis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
She will be sincerely missed by all who knew her, and shared her life. A celebration of her life will be held in the near future.
“Good Bye Family and Friends”
I’m sorry I had to leave in a sudden kind of way, but my friend Jesus said he needed me today,
So I couldn’t call, or even say good-bye you see, it was just my turn to leave.
Don’t wait up for me, and please don’t you cry, because you didn’t hear me say good-bye!
Just remember who I’m leaving with, He’s the one with the master plan.
Please don’t take another kind of route, and lose your way,
Because He’s coming back for you one day.
